This gem from Paramahamsa Yogananda sums up what is required to build lasting relationships.
“There is a magnet in your heart that will attract true friends. That magnet is unselfishness, thinking of others first… when you learn to live for others, they will live for you.”
– Paramahansa Yogananda

Jon,
I have contemplated on this for a long time and unfortunately I don’t have a good answer.
If you are totally unselfish and helping other friends, then you are just making friends who are “selfish”?? That won’t work either right?

If I try to be unselfish, and think of others first…for the hopes that others “will live for you” or to “attract true friends”, is it truly unselfish? I don’t know. What if I was unselfish, and thought of others first in spite of whether or not they live for me, what would that accomplish? Would it work? Would it be better? What do you think?
