The definition of a killer app (courtesy: Hanley Brite)

My friend Hanley Brite (of Authentic Connections) gave a simple but “to the point” definition of what is a killer app. Here it is…
A killer app is a product or service that nobody knew they wanted but once exposed to it, they could not live without it.
Think about some of the killer apps that you know and probably the definition fits quite well.
Have a great week ahead!

Javier,
Thank you for your comments. You bring up good points.
Actually, lot of needs are not mostly covered – mainly because the new things that we are using will create new needs.
For example,
* You wanted to communicate when you are traveling, so there is a need for the mobile phone
* You want to talk a lot on the mobile phone so there is a need for the mobile phone charger
* You might want to charge the mobile phone in a car so you need a car charger
* You want to protect the mobile phone, so there is a need for the phone cover
* You might lose the mobile phone, so there is a need for mobile phone insurance
* You might want to do more than just call from the mobile phone, so there is a need for iPhone or Blackberry.
* Now you have addresses everywhere so you need a way to sync. the addresses – there comes SugarSync.
Whenever you change a habit, the reality changes that produces new opportunities and new breakdowns. If you accept or reject an offer based on these breakdowns, you create a new reality – leading to new offers.
My $.02 of course.
Best,
Raj

I agree with that. The creation of needs needs leads to the need of their sustainment, and this itself sparks many other needs.

I believe the definition fits perfectly, but I still prefer apps that I always knew I needed. the reason for this is that they don’t create a need around them. I believe that killer apps are actually the ones that fully cover an existing need. I guess a lot of needs are mostly covered nowadays, so new needs are required to be created!!
